Great Minds

Graphic Translation

I decided to use the image of a ship as inspiration for a logo. Above are my first few sketches

Graphic Translation Level 3
After talking with Candice I decided on creating a pirate themed rum company. If you look at the first few drawings the ship is more straight on and at an angle, but I was having trouble making it look right, so I decided to turn the ship sideways so it was more simple and recognizable. I added the tears in the sails to make the logo a little more rough. I also added a crashing wave at the bottom for the same reason.

Candice and I looked up different pirate sayings and came up with "Admiral of the Black."
According to pirate glossary it is a title given to the leader of the Brethren of the Coast.
Who were a loose coalition of pirates and buccaneers in 17th & 18th century in the Caribbean.

Sketches of potential posters for this assignment

After talking with Candice and Rafa, we decided to focus on Social Media Addiction. Above are a
few ideas of how to convey that in an image. Rafa brought up the idea of doing an Andy Warhol
inspired piece of a bunch of people taking selfies.

Above are some more sketches that Candice, Rafa, and I made. After talking with Candice we decided
that it would be more powerful to have the same person taking a selfie, but from different angles.

Above are a few different things I used to build the final piece.
A Warhol image, a youtube tutorial, and a bunch of images from some random girl's instagram.
I searched #selfie and found her profile. She had 40+ photos just of herself. It's all photo of her.

The texture I added to the image

I then added a blue bar, the URL in the facebook font, and then the login info

I felt like there needed to be a white space in between the images and the blue bar so I added it below

them into the computer, and opened them in photoshop.

Sequence
I added different colors and effects to the shapes. Above is a sequence created
from the different layers.

Design Problem 6: Border Play - Framing Part A

Borders
Above is a simple icon with border variations. The borders are meant to call attention to the icon in some and become the more dominant form in others.
